Thirsty Firsties

When students start first grade they are thirsty to learn.  As a teacher it is my job to ensure they retain that thirst for knowledge throughout their student career.  I start the year by building a strong teacher/student relationship.  I get to know them as an individulals and learn their interests.  I want them to know I care.  I build my curriculm around their interests therefore insuring that they will look forward to embarking on a new adventrue everyday.

  2. Hi Jeanette,
Great mission statement! Those first graders sure are thirsty for knowledge... little sponges that just soak up learning!

  3. Jeanette, it so true that in first grade the children are so enthusiastic about school. They seem to lose that as they get up into higher grades, but hopefully with teachers like you, the enthusiasm will continues well-beyond first grade!
